“Reading Makes Better Dreamers”

Meet Anna Murphy-Pociask, Marketing Coordinator at Discover Oshkosh. She’s a creative storyteller, book lover, and one of the vibrant voices helping spread the joy of reading across our community.

With a spark for storytelling and a heart for Oshkosh, Anna reminds us that reading isn’t just something we do; it’s how we dream, connect, and grow together.

Reading Helps Bring Oshkosh Stories to Life

For Anna, a UW-Oshkosh graduate, reading and storytelling go hand in hand.

Her work with Discover Oshkosh brings local stories to life, from events and hidden gems to sharing the stories of businesses and people making a difference. She noted that she’s often reading articles and blogs about things to do around Oshkosh, as well as writing content herself.

Reading fuels that creativity and connects her to the heartbeat of the city she loves to promote.

Reading Fuels Curiosity, Creativity, and Connection

Anna said she believes reading is one of the most powerful tools for learning, growth, and imagination, noting that “Reading makes better dreamers.” Books, blogs, and articles don’t just entertain, they spark ideas, fuel conversations, and help us see the Oshkosh community (and beyond) through new eyes.

“You learn so much by reading and those things shape who you are as a person,” she said.

For Anna, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear has been an inspiring read lately. The book is all about taking small steps, which lead to bigger changes. That’s the perfect reflection of how reading and progress happen one page, one conversation, one person at a time.

Reading Starts Conversations That Matter

Anna finds her books both online and at her favorite local spot, the Oshkosh Public Library.

“It’s a great place to find new books and get talking about ideas,” she said.

Whether she’s scrolling through new releases or picking something off a library shelf, Anna said she believes reading is at the core of what makes Oshkosh thrive.

“Reading is such a powerful part of life in Oshkosh because it develops great conversations and ideas for people in this community,” she said.

And reading isn’t just a solo act. It’s social, too! Anna noted that she joined a book club with some friends, where they enjoy new stories together.

“It’s so fun,” she said.

That joy of connection, laughter, and shared discovery captures what the Reading Makes Better Oshkosh initiative is all about: bringing people together through words and stories.
